Today I had a doctor's appointment for my eyes at a Clinic in Durant Oklahoma where I had had Lasik surgery in 2005. I was there for my 10-year checkup 3 years too late .after being severely reprimanded by the kind teddy bear esque Kevin Croft MD he went about checking my eyes and found that they were still in great shape even though next week is my birthday I'll be 63 and he was impressed with his work. He did find however an autoimmune disease called Blythesyndrome which makes my eyes twitch and water and involuntary eye-opening and not closing sorta like a doll that the eyeball string had broken. He did tests he did images he did measurements and he came to the conclusion that I needed surgery but first he was going to inject my eyes. I was so excited I love shots especially in the eye. They weren't terribly bad except one .I didn't move I just gripped the arm of the chair harder .he asked me did that hurt I said no I was just testing my strength. He put a little more numbing drops in and then continued .was it terrible no but wasn't pleasant either. He asked me how long this has been going on and I said for as long as I can remember his mouth fell open and he said that you have got to be kidding me this is not rare and it can be fixed why didn't you come tell me I said I haven't had Insurance until recently I swear to you he gave me a hug and he said we're going to fix you and he left the room 5th grade graduation dresses
now let me go back and explain why this has happened to me.
Y'all know I don't do anything "half fast"
Wait a minute you'll get it. Anyway my dad had acquired a bicycle that was in a junkyard paid the man $5 brought it home painted it blue put new handle grips a seat two new pedals fix the chain and voila there was my new birthday bicycle 11 years old back in 1492. I took the old girl out for a spin down the sidewalk so I could turn around halfway between the alley and our house as was my mother's instructions always and to avoid a mud puddle I went the opposite direction .wound Up stuck in the mud falling forward bashing my face into a decorative Boulder. Yes it broke my tooth and my heart as I had just had to get glasses and I was looking so forward to going back to school being called string bean flat chest four eyes and now broke tooth. The boys were going to love me and they did not let me down for the very first year of 7th grade Junior High a boy nicknamed me Longnose cow .I couldn't stand that boy but I let it go until our 30th class reunion and then I told his wife and she's shamed him and I wanted to say how does it feel to be a fat bald alcoholic but of course I didn't .BUT I thought it.
Ok back to the story Old Doctor Wyche did a root canal on it and it did turn black. My front tooth I was thrilled.
At 19 my husband and myself took our niece and nephew Mike and Tina Boudreau to a movie. while eating popcorn I felt my tooth break out. Yes Lord that sucker was broken out into my hand. Back to the dentist I went and some magic was performed with a new overlay. Guess when ? that's right boys and girls it was my birthday.
Then as you might expect on my 25th birthday I was about to blow out my candles and found that I couldn't pucker smile blink or hear from my right ear I was terrified. I called my mother who was a nurse for Doctor Fountain and he had me come in and gave me cortisone and vitamin E everyday for a week injections. It most likely had been Bell's palsy probably caused by the broken tooth that had died and caused nerve damage.
skip forward to 1996 it had to come out. the bone had eroded and there was nothing to hold a tooth in anymore it was the only thing I could do. The first thing to do was take bone from my chin through a lengthy operation and put it into the gumline where the implant was going to be. One of my dear little friends from church wanted to pray for me as I had asked for prayer for being in surgery the next day for the implant and I was quiet fearful I had already gone one year with no front tooth. Her name was Tuesday and as we held hands and she began to pray . She said dear Lord please let Rhonda be safe during her breast implants surgery tomorrow and I looked up horrified saying no it was my tooth just one tooth have you ever heard anybody laughing during a prayer well we did didn't we Bobbie Lee?
When was my surgery you might ask? It was the week of graduation for my daughter and niece from 5th grade from Hugo Elementary. It seems the medication made one high also sleepy and not understanding how to put her pantyhose on her husband tried and tried and decided to just forego the pantyhose but did manage to get a bra and dress on me. Got to the school wind blew my dress. I caught it and proceeded to walk into my child's graduation sitting Center front really good location where my sister had saved seats for us. I proudly announced to her that I was not in any pain and by the way I had forgotten to put on underwear. she thinks that I said it loudly I was none the wiser.
Summer came and went school started again and I finally was healed enough to get my brand new beautiful $5,000 front tooth implant "on my birthday"
Now you know the reason that the doctor today told me what has probably happened to me starting at age 11 continuing until age almost 63 and he will see me again next week on my birthday
:-)
